Los Angeles Union Station Historical Society Board of Directors Jan. 15, 2024.
Dear Friends of Los Angeles Union Station,
our station’s historic viewscape is being threatened by Frank McCourt’s proposed “Gondola” (cable car) between the station and the Dodger Stadium. Its approval is now up to the LA Metro Board of Directors during its Jan. 25th, 2024 meeting.
How did this happen? Former Mayor Garcetti, who got $3 million from McCourt (as per State records), introduced the Gondola scheme to the Metro Board before moving to India, and leaving Angelenos with the Gondola around our necks!
Although McCourt bankrupted the Dodgers, he retained control of the parking lots on which he can build shopping malls, and high-end condos. The Gondolas would “fly” between Union Station and Dodger Stadium using 200 ft. steel towers marching over Chinatown, Los Angeles State Historic State Park, and countless homes, invading people’s privacy, and disfiguring park land and Union Station. Over 18 civic organizations, including the Sierra Club, the Audubon Society, and our Board of Directors are fighting McCourt’s Monstrosity, and We Need your Help to Stop the Gondola!
What can you do?
1) Write to the Metro Board ASAP and tell them why you are against McCourt’s Gondola scheme. The address is: Los Angeles Metro, One Gateway Plaza, Los Angeles CA 90012—Mail Stop 99-3-1, ATT: Board Clerk.
2) Attend Metro’s meeting on Jan. 25 at 10AM in the Metro Boardroom, 3rd floor, Metro building at:
One Gateway Plaza, Los Angeles CA 90012 and tell them why they must STOP THE GONDOLA!
